“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment.” – Lao Tzu
Message of the Day
The idea of enlightenment is generally understood as a remote, hard to attain state of knowledge and peace. And it is true that the fully matured state of spiritual awakening is far removed from the typical everyday existence of most people. However, the secret of enlightenment is that the seed of enlightenment is always with us and has always been a part of every moment of our life. Enlightenment is self-realization, and whenever we notice the presence of our awareness – that thing inside that is having an experience right now – we are touching our enlightenment. That self-recognition is the starting place of enlightenment, of freedom.

Reflection Journal Questions
- Three qualities of the true self are love, beauty, and joy. Write down one of these as the theme of your day today. Reflect on how you will experience either love, beauty, or joy as your day unfolds, and how you will approach that quality through each of the five senses.
- Write down one experience from your past that felt completely pure and liberating – it could be an experience in Nature, love between two people, or the joy of music. Are you able to bring that feeling back right now? Journal about how this felt and whether you found it easy or difficult to tap into this feeling just by bringing it into your awareness.
-
There are many expressions of “the light,” because they all have the same source deep inside us. Write down your clearest experience of the light, when you felt completely fulfilled. Revisit this experience in your heart.
- Reflect further on your experience today.
