It’s the last day of summer and tomorrow is the Autumn Equinox. This year the first day of Fall will bestow itself upon us on Saturday, September 22nd.
It being on a Saturday allows us to really absorb ourselves in the day that beckons balance. Rise to a balancing yoga. Invite some friends over for a tea blending party that will prepare you for the cooler days ahead. You could even enjoy a tea meditation.
You may even spend the day strolling the vineyards and wine tasting as the grapes of wine signify the magical changes of expansion and evolvement. Autumn is a time when the days are still warm enough to be in the outdoors, yet the evenings become sweater worthy, so wines that have that middle factor are just right for this season. Look for an oaky Chardonnay that has hints of vanilla or almond, and the tasting notes may read toast, nutty or buttery. A full-bodied Pinot Noir would be just as suitable for a fire side sip.
Return to an evening of balance preparing your Autumn smoke bundles for cleansing and to infuse your space with warmth and nourishment. Try a handful of rosemary, sage, and cinnamon sticks. Store your herb bundles in a dark cool place to dry.
End the night by preparing a dream pillow, which will help you take advantage of the longer nights and the regenerating power of your dreams. Include mugwort in your dream pillow for dreaming, and add flowers and herbs such as roses, lavender, chamomile and hops for scent and relaxation. A dream pillow can be made by simply filling a muslin bag with the herbs and tucking it into your pillowcase.
The Autumn Equinox is about reflection, preparation, and balance. Take the time on this day to reflect on the year thus far, prepare for the cooler months ahead and balance your dark nights with the brighter days.
