Day 13 – Pistachio Affogato

I know I have been doing a lot of deserts and drinks, but they tend to be the more luscious and tasty recipes.  I will also admit that they are quicker and easier to make.  Today I have something that is a bit of a desert and drink combined, Pistachio Affogato.  The recipe is from Romancing The Stove.  Since my guy seems to snooze off most nights after dinner, I thought I would give him a wake up call with this little cup. Traditionally served with vanilla gelato, this recipe calls for pistachio gelato and of course a serving of double espresso.     Two simple ingredients combine to make a sweet, rich desert drink.  No need for cream, no need for sugar, the creamy gelato drips into your coffee to sweeten it with every sip.  I truly enjoyed the flavor of gelato in place of simple vanilla, yum!  I’m lucky enough to have an Italian gelato shop close by that makes their gelato in house with authentic recipes.  My favorite with them has always been the pistachio gelato, so this was a no brainer.  I had picked up the gelato ahead of time and whipped up the espresso after dinner.  A strong dark roast quality coffee, that is perhaps freshly ground also works perfectly well for this recipe.

Results

There is no way that this desert will not wake up your guy or in some cases girl.  It’s just inevitable with the coffee.  It will stimulate and revive with a splash of energy.  The cool gelato ignites all the senses with its taste, scent and cold touch to the lips.  The hubby sipped it all up and was happy to play with me.

  1. Well after a heavy meal all i would want is a sweet tasting desert to finish off. And of course i love coffee i always have one even right now. Would be a perfect mix. Thanks
