This summer we headed out to Utah and visited a few national parks. On the way out there, we had the chance to stop at a charming little town 2 hours outside of Las Vegas. St. George is a southwestern town on the Utah-Arizona border. The city lies in the northeastern-most part of the Mojave Desert adjacent to Pine Valley Mountains. Sculpted red rock desert valleys holding cactus flowers and exotic looking plants are nestled below pine covered mountain peaks. The Saint George area is surrounded by multiple state parks, nature preserves, and of course the towering monoliths and canyon walls of Zion National Park. Many other national parks, national monuments and breath taking vistas are a short drive away
St. George is named after George A. Smith, a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Apostle. It is highly influenced by the Mormon religion, as a matter of fact the St. George Utah Temple is the first temple completed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.
As small as the city may be, it is growing and quite metropolitan. St. George is home to a number of museums and points of interests, and many are located in the downtown historic district. The city has quite an art culture and St. George Art Museum is the leading art museum which features traveling exhibits displaying culture and time. As a matter of fact, a unique feature to St. George is the Anasazi Steakhouse located in an Art Gallery building. I’ll post my experience here another day. First let’s talk about where to stay while visiting St. George.
The Inn At Entrada
The urban area of St. George is studded by numerous hills, mesas, waterways and habitat reserves, creating natural boundaries of sections, neighborhoods and communities within the city. One gated golf community on the edges of Snow Canyon State Park is home to the Inn At Entrada. We stayed here a few nights and felt so at home that we did not want to leave. If this upscale resort looks familiar to you, that is because it was the setting for the Disney film High School Musical 2 and while filming, the cast stayed in Casitas at The Inn at Entrada.
The luxury casitas with panoramic views of striking red vermilion cliffs makes this resort a desert paradise. The Casitas are available in studios, or one to three bedroom apartments complete with back yards, front patios and your very own driveway which leads into your private garage that you drive right into after check in. The Casita is a “smart” home, which means that you can push a button and the shades go up, the lights come on, and the fireplace lights up. You have free Wi-Fi in the entire apartment and the large flat screen TV’s in each room are satellite connected with just about any channel you can want. The kitchens are fully equipped for anything you want to prepare and beautiful red dishes for serving. Bedrooms offer comfortable king sized beds and walk in closets along with bathrooms that have separate glass showers and Jacuzzi tubs that will make you giggle with glee.
If you end up in a Casita that sits right next to the pond or river stream water feature, then you will have the pleasure of ducks that you can feed and the music of frogs at sunset. The ambience is of true nature as the complex is surrounded by an abundance of red rocks and plateaus.
The Inn At Entrada Activities
The property offers a 12,000 square foot Sports and Fitness Center, which includes a workout area complete with state of the art fitness equipment, aerobics studio, indoor lap pool, sparkling outdoor recreational pool and hot tub, two lighted tennis courts, pickle ball courts, sand volleyball court and private massage rooms. Guests will also enjoy access to a full range of fitness classes. Personal trainers are also available to Inn Guests upon request. The Spa At Entrada is a full service spa with a kid’s menu of services so that you can bring your children with you for great relaxation and bonding time. This is a true family friendly resort.
Entrada distinguishes itself year after year as Utah’s premier golf experience. The Johnny Miller Signature Design 18-hole championship private golf course weaves through ancient black lava flows and meandering streams, stretching across 7,085 yards.
The Inn At Entrada Dining
The restaurants on the property are Kokopelli Restaurant and The Grille at Entrada. You can enjoy savory dishes that nourish both the body and the soul while overlooking the red rock canyon and the lights of St. George at the Kokopelli Restaurant and Lounge located in the Entrada Clubhouse. The ambiance only adds to your feelings of contentment.
The Grille at Entrada is a more casual dining atmosphere. Whether it’s to watch a game on one of large TVs, have a casual lunch with friends or a refresh yourself with a drink at the bar – there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Conclusion
Blended naturally into a landscape of vivid red rock cliffs and canyons of southern Utah, The Inn At Entrada has everything you need to relax, renew and discover from the beautiful and calming grounds to the delicious food you can indulge in while taking in breath taking views. Be as active or relaxed, social or private, as you wish at this top choice St. George resorts.
