Did you know that solstice in Latin means sun stands still? It’s quite befitting for the longest day of the year, don’t you think?
Hope everyone is enjoying the day and harvesting the sun. It’s scorching dry heat out here, so I have a nice cocktail to help us cool off and celebrate the sun this afternoon. Afternoon tea and cocktail time has been combined for a Marigold Tea Cocktail.
My Marigolds have been gleaming in the sunshine. It seems that the more sun they get the bigger they grow. I have a lovely Marigold cocktail with a splash of champagne which we can not do without since we are celebrating.
I know Marigolds are not considered the typical Summer Solstice flower, but I don’t see why not because around here they are everywhere during the summer time. So, here is my Marigold Tea Cocktail recipe.
Ingredients
3/4 oz. Simple syrup
4 oz. Marigold tea
1 oz. lemon juice
2 sprigs thyme
1 ½ oz. gin
Champagne
Marigolds, for garnish
Method
- Add lemon juice, simple syrup and thyme to the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle.
- Add tea, gin and plenty of ice. Shake well.
- Strain into glass and top with a splash of champagne and a Marigold flower.
Notes
You will need to brew a cup of Marigold tea for this recipe. Soak one tablespoon of dried marigold leaves in one cup of hot water. Allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain and use or serve.
Tip: Make additional tea and pour into ice filled glasses to serve alongside cocktails for those who want to skip the alcohol and enjoy the tea.
Have a wondrous solstice and a joyous summer!
